Coffee Helps me Maintain ~ 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

Another card for the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop! I went to a local craft store that I've been meaning to visit a few days ago and I was SO happy to find this adorable Spellbinders' die set!  Most of the items in the store are consignments, so I snagged the set at more than half off!  The coffee gods were smiling down at me.

What I Used to Make my Card:
Kraft Card Base
White Card
Spellbinders Die Set, Hipster 1, #S2-212
CAS-ual Fridays Sentiment, Coffee Talk
CAS-ual Fri Dies,  Coffee Cup
MFT/Die-Namics Stitched Oval STAX, #MFT-0521
Scraps of Patterned Paper
Dark Brown Card
VersaFine Ink in Onyx Black

The card was inspired by a card on the Spellbinders' site that illustrates the dies in use.  I loved the three cups, so I decided to make three cups for my card, too.  I started by cutting out the cups from white card, then I cut the cup out of patterned paper {which I dug out of my scraps stash} and the little cup
Another Peek
holder from brown card.  I carefully cut the tops off the patterned paper and glued that onto the white card
bodies, followed by the cup holder.

While the cups were drying, I stamped my sentiment onto some white card and cut the word 'coffee' from some dark brown card.  I used a stitched oval die to cut out the sentiment, making sure it was at the bottom of the oval.  I attached the oval to the kraft card base, then glued the word 'coffee' to the top of the oval.

Once I had the cups positioned, I attached those to the base as well.  Lastly, I used some of my homemade dots to finish off the card.  I love the floral coffee cups; I was getting bored with everything being shades of brown.  Thanks for stopping in and I hope you like this card as much as I do! Fondly, Christi

Nature's Solution ~ 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

Another fabulous coffee card for the 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop.  I've been wanting to use the Hero Arts Spice Market stamp again and this was the perfect opportunity.

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Card Base
Hero Arts, Basic Grey Spice Market, #CG638 {retired but available}

Watercolor Paper
Sue Wilson Toronto die, #CED6204
CAS-ual Fridays Sentiment, Coffee Talk
CAS-ual Fri Dies,  Coffee Cup
Simon Says Stamp Detail White Embossing Powder
Distress Oxide Inks in Gathered Twigs, Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain & Vintage Photo
Distress Sprayer
Distress Ink in Ground Espresso
Versamark Ink
Shades of Brown Cardstock
MISTI

I had an idea in my head about how I wanted this card to look and I can proudly say it looks like it does in my head!  That's an amazing feat!  I began with a piece of watercolor paper, place it in my MISTI, and covered the middle area with a piece of scrap, about 1 3/4" high and long enough to cover the card side to side.  Then I stamped the Spice Market stamp onto the paper, removed the strip of paper, and embossed the image using white embossing powder.  If you click on the picture you can see the background stamp inked with the Versamark ink.

Once the embossing was finished, I colored the image with the brown shades of
Oxide inks, spraying the inks with the Distress sprayer, re-inking, and generally working the colors until I got a balance of color that pleased me.  My next step was to stamp the sentiment directly on the panel, but my plans were changed because the ink ran a bit.  I guess I didn't wait long enough for the watercolor paper to dry.  No problem!  If there is one
thing I've learned from being a crafter it's how to step back and regroup!  I cut a piece of brown card, edged it with Ground Espresso ink and stamped the sentiment on that.  I attached the die cut to the card and then glued my already cut "coffee."

I think the card came out wonderfully and I just cannot get enough of the CAS-ual Friday snarky coffee sayings!  I hope you'll join me in the Hop and then pop on over to my giveaway post and enter! I have TONS of great stuff to give away!  Thanks! Christi

Crack is Bad for You ~ 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

And here is another snarky coffee card for the blog hop.

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Square Card Base {5 1/4" x 5 1/4"}
Kraft Paper
DCWV Burlap Paper Card Stack, 6" x 6" {available at numerous stores}
Darice Nesting Circles Dies, #2014-74
CAS-ual Fridays Fri-Dies, Coffee Cup
CAS-ual Fridays Stamps, Coffee Talk
Distress Ink in Ground Espresso
Various Colored Paper {rainbow colors - I used mostly Core'dinations paper in the pastel, brights, and dark pads}

I am obsessed with rainbows lately {so much so I added a Rainbow Cards board to my Pinterest page!}, and what better way to make a rainbow than using different colored cardstock?  I used a bunch of scraps; filled in when I needed using whatever color I found that I thought helped complete the rainbow.  The first step for this card was cutting out the little coffee cups using all the rainbow colors.  I set them aside.

Another Look
Then I stamped the sentiment on kraft paper, cut it out using a circle die, and cut the burlap paper using the circle die that was two dies larger {I hope that makes sense - the long & short is I wanted the burlap to peek out a bit}.  Then I also cut a circle out of scrap white using the largest die that would fit on my card.  Then I used some old washi tape to temporarily arrange the cups around the white circle.  It took a bit of fiddling and moving the cups around, but when I finally got the look I wanted.  After that, I glued the cups onto the white circle, gluing just the bottom of the cup and the bottom half of the handle to the edge of the white circle, so each cup is actually more off the circle than on it.  I debated how I was going to achieve a circular design without using the template, but I decided I needed no more stress in my life and just used the circle.  You can't really even see it unless the light captures it perfectly and it honestly doesn't do anything bad to the design {in my opinion.}

Once I had the circle with the cups on the card base, I glued the sentiment onto the burlap paper and then attached that to the center of the cup circle.  I really like the dichotomy of the pretty, happy, rainbows and the "darkness" of the sentiment; I think it's hysterical.  I hope you are hopping along with me at the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop.  There are TONS of cool prizes to win, and if you are in the mood to win something, why not check out my own awesome giveaway?   All the details are here.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you got a chuckle out of my card! Prison Orange ~2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

I am frantically making cards for the 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop - so far, out of the few I've made, this is one of my favorites.

What I Used to Make my Card
White Card Base
Bird Crazy Stamps & Dies {already colored & cut}
Clean Color Markers
Riley & Co. Coffee. Because Prison. . .#RWD-544
Wendy Vecchi Mini Brick Stencil, #WVSFA053
VersaFine Onyx Black
Googly Eyes
Distress Ink in Hickory Smoke

This was an easy card.  I already had my bird ready to go, complete with her googly eyes.  I colored her with Clean Color Brush Markers.  I ripped a piece of scrap paper {making sure it was big enough for me to add my sentiment} and
stenciled all around it with the Distress Ink using the Bricks stencil.
Another Look

Then I stamped my sentiment and added my bird.  I love that this card was so easy to make and at the same time makes me giggle!  You know how I love my snarky sentiments!

Thanks so much for popping by! While you're here, I'd love for you to join my giveaway, you can get all the details here.  I am finding more and more good stuff to add to my package and I promise you won't be disappointed!  Hugs!  Christi

You're Toadally Awesome!

If you recall, I told you I made too many toads when I made my Hoppy Mother's Day card.  I always seem to stamp and color too many of whatever I am using when I make a card.  Partially that's due to my lack of coloring skills, how many times I mess up die cutting the image, and then because, even with my MISTI, I sometimes don't get a good enough image but don't notice it until I go to color it.  All of that ends up with me having tons of leftover images.  They do get used eventually, like I've done here!

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Card Base
Left Over Toads from Hoppy Mother's Day
Die-Namics Blueprints 27, #MFT-870
Distress Oxide Inks in Broken China, Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio
Distress Sprayer
White Card
Green Card
Versamark Ink
Wow! Primary Ebony Super Fine Embossing Powder, #WHOOSF
Dimensional Dots

For this card, the first step was cutting out the frame from the Blueprints 27 set.  I didn't know exactly how I was going to use it, so it's cut out of regular card instead of watercolor card.  I decided I'd try out the Oxide Inks on it despite that and I think it came out fine.  I knew I wasn't going to re-work the colors so I figured the regular card would hold up.

Once that was dry, I attached it to a piece of green card, trimmed the panel down, and attached it to my white card base.  I put that under the tile on my
Another Peek :)
desk.

The sentiment was stamped on green card, using Versamark ink, and embossed with WOW! embossing powder.  I trimmed the sentiment down and adhered that and the toads onto the card using dimensional dots.  Easy card and I love to use leftover parts from other projects {and, as you know from the opening paragraph, I have plenty of leftovers!}  The card actually came together with no issues and I am very fond of those little toads!

I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial and that perhaps you will either stamp, color and cut some extras, or use up some extras you have lying around.  Also, I would like to invite you to my giveaway; you can get all the details here.  Thanks for hopping stopping by! Christi

Happy Mother's Day!

I actually made this card before I made the Hoppy Mother's Day card; mostly because my mom LOVES flowers! When living in the house we grew up in, my mom would spend all spring and summer gardening in the vegetable gardens which, as we grew up and moved out, she turned into flower gardens.  In fact, when we sold the house, one of the things the new owners loved most was the beautiful gardens.  But after I made the card, I got worried she'd just be frustrated at not being able to see the flowers so I am going to give this one to my neighbor.

What I Used to Make my Card:
Pink Card Base
Altenew Sweet Rose Bouquet Stamps

Hero Arts Inks
Computer Generated Sentiment
Die-Namics Stitched Fishtail Sentiment Strips, #MFT-1123
Green Card

This was an easy card, and I actually started it thinking it'd just be a sample.  I adore the beautiful Altenew sets, but I'm not talented enough to be able to layer the components flawlessly {I rely heavily on the downloads and videos that Altenew supplies}; so I typically test out the set.  This card was my test.  I am so proud at how it came out {well, except some of the leaves but if you didn't notice, don't look}, I decided to turn it into a card.

My only dilemma was the sentiment, so I made my own.  That alone took me
Another Look
MUCH longer than the card because I am a font junkie.  I admit it.  I must have over 3,000 fonts in my computer, so I auditioned entirely too many; then I had to size it.  Once I settled on the sentiment, I cut it and some coordinating green card using stitched fishtail banners and attached that to the stamped panel.  That was it.

I think it looks like it took me much longer to make and I know Helen will love it.  She saves all the cards I give her, just like my mom used to do.  It warms my heart!  I hope you had a fabulous Mother's Day; my cats got me a box of chocolate truffles {YUM!} so I'm a happy stamper! Hugs, Christi

Hoppy Mother's Day!

I just got the Toadally Awesome set from Lawn Fawn and it was just in time because I couldn't find a single stamp set that had Happy Mother's day in it! And, they are just so "toadally" cute!

What I Used to Make my Card:
Lawn Fawn Grassy Border, #LF613

Lawn Fawn Toadally Awesome Stamps, #LF1581
Lawn Fawn Toadally Awesome Dies, #LF1582
White Card base
Light Blue Card
Green Card
Blue-Gray Card
Clean Color Markers
Watercolor Paper
Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black
MFT/Die-Namics Stitched Oval STAX, #MFT-521
Fine Tip Watercolor Brush
Hero Arts Raining Fluff Die Set, #DI369 {cloud}
MISTI
I stamped all the images with the Jet Black ink on watercolor paper, then colored them in using the Clean Color Markers.  While the images were drying a bit, I cut the pond out of the blue card using the Oval STAX dies.  I cut the grass out of the green card and a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" panel out of the blue-gray card.  I attached the panel onto the white card base, then put the grass on, followed by the pond.  The cloud was cut out of white card and I cut out the sentiment using a stitched rectangle.

By then my critters and such were nice and dry so I cut them out with the
Another Peek
corresponding dies.  I'm glad I made a bunch of the cattails; they are SO cute and I think they really made the design come to life.  As I usually do, I made way too many frogs but I used them in another card you'll see later.

Once I let the card dry under the tile on my desk {the weight helps bond everything and I use waxed paper inside and outside the card just in case I added too much adhesive}, typically overnight, the card was finished.  I love how it came out and I know my mom will love it, too.  I made the layers so she could touch the card and, if it is nice and sunny, she may be able to see some of it.  I think it's adorable and I hope you do, too!

Please don't forget I am having a giveaway - you can read all the details here.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday and see you soon! Christi

You Are Not Alone ~ A card for Layton's Legacy

If you have been anywhere in the online stamping world this week, you must have seen some posts regarding Lea's card drive, called Layton's Legacy.  If not, let me direct you to her blog where you can read the heartbreaking story of Layton and see exactly what Lea is accomplishing.  As of this writing, she has surpassed her initial donation request and the drive is still going on strong - truly a wonderful way to keep her little boy's spirit alive!

This was the palette Lea had chosen for Layton's nursery and the mood board she requested we use making the cards:

{Click to Make Larger}

This is What I used to Make My Card:
White Card Base
Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black
Lawn Fawn Critter's in the Forest Stamps, #LF314
Lawn Fawn Critters in the Forest Dies, #LF486
Lawn Fawn Grassy Border
Lawn Fawn Birch Tress, #LF1500
Darice Nesting Circles, #2014-74
Various Shades of Gray Card
Versamark Ink
Water Color Paper
Wow! Primary Ebony Super Fine Embossing Powder, #WHOOSF
Clean Color Markers
Hero Arts You Are Loved set, #CM171
Detail watercolor brush
Another Look

Since I knew I was going to be using the Critters in the Forest set by Lawn Fawn, I went to the LawnFawnatics challenge page and was inspired by the card sketch they had for the current challenge.  The first thing I did was stamp and emboss the raccoon and owl from that stamp set.  Since I knew I was going to be water coloring them, I wanted to ensure that the ink wouldn't seep outside the stamped lines.  Then, I proceeded to color them.  Once they were dry enough {I try to let them sit overnight, even if I dry them with my heat gun, because trying to die cut wet paper is never successful for me}, I used the matching dies to cut them out.  I set them aside.

I cut a circle out of white card, then cut out the grass and the birch trees.  I attached everything but the animals and die cut the circle again so there was nothing hanging off the sides.  I cut out the next sized circle in dark gray and the largest circle in blue gray card.  I attached all of the circles together, mounting everything onto the last circle a bit toward the bottom edge.
One of the cards I am
including

The sentiment was stamped on another shade of gray and then cut out using a stitched banner die.  The raccoon and owl were set into the grass and glued on, then the sentiment was attached to the bottom of the circles.

Knowing what Lea is going to do with these cards, it gave me joy knowing that someone would be getting a small reprieve from all the waiting and worrying at the NICU and, hopefully, maybe a smile.  I hope you can join in the card drive {I'm actually sending a few cards but they don't quite meet the mood board, so I am not entering them} and, perhaps, donate a bit of money.  Lea is going to try and pull together a drive every year in memory of Layton's birthday; I know I'll be there and I hope to see you! Hugs, Christi

I'm One Break-Up Away. . .

*** Looking for the GIVEAWAY post? Click HERE

I was putting away some of my older wood mounted stamps and I came across the sentiment.  I'd forgotten I even had it, but that happens when you have so many stamps!  I finished my cleaning up and sat down at my desk to make this card.  It was a super quick process and I hope you enjoy my little tutorial.

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Card Base
Mama Elephant The Cat's Meow stamps
Mama Elephant The Cat's Meow dies
Prismacolor Pencils
Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black
Hampton Art Sentiment, #PS0781, dated 2006!! {retired but available}
MISTI

Since the sentiment was wood mounted, and I am very experienced at messing up wood mounted stamping {and throwing away TONS of mistakes}, I decided to unmount the stamp.  The process literally took me longer than anything else.  I know there are videos and tutorials on how to properly unmount your stamps, but I just ended up pulling the stamp off the wood and picking off the foam.
Another Peek
Not recommended and next time I will do it the right way!  The stamp is retired {it was made in 2013! I'm sure I snagged it in a discount bin} but I did a search for it and found a few sellers on various sites.

Once I was done fighting unmounting the stamp, I set it aside and went to work on the cats.  I used my MISTI and stamped them right on the card; very daring of me but I am trying to become better at one layer cards so risks must be taken.  I then colored them in with my Prismacolor pencils.  Once that was done, I stamped the sentiment directly on the card and I was done!  I guess there is something to be said about these one layer wonders.

I hope my card inspires you to get out some of your older stamps and breathe some new life into them.  Thanks for reading my rant; I appreciate your visit and comments. - Fondly, Christi

Some Bunny Loves You

** Looking for the giveaway post? It's HERE

Are you tired of the adorable Lawn Fawn bunnies?? I hope not, because I cannot stop creating with them.  The bunnies in this card were colored with Derwent Inktense Pencils and they are a bit different than my usual colored things because they are stamped on the "rough" side of the water color paper.  I had used the smooth side and didn't like what I was planning, so I turned it over and made these cute bunnies on the other side.  I think the rough side gives the image a bit more texture.  I hop hope you enjoy the card!

What I Used to Make my Card:
White Card Base
Lawn Fawn Some Bunny Stamp Set, #LF1587
Lawn Fawn Some Bunny Dies, #LF1588
VersaFine Ink in Onyx Black
Derwent Inktense Pencils
Watercolor Paper
Green Card
Lawn Fawn Grassy Border, #LF613
MISTI
Zig Clean Color Markers

As I stated above, I colored and cut out the bunnies, then I stamped the sentiment.  I used my MISTI to center the sentiment - I have such trouble getting things to line up the way I want - and I could NOT use the old stamp positioners, just could not wrap my head around using them.  I have about six different ones and none of them worked the way they should for me.  I am so glad these new tools came along!

Another Look
Then I stamped the flowers on some scrap water color paper and colored them with the Clean Color Markers.  Instead of water coloring them, I just used the marker at full strength.  Makes them pop a bit, don't you think?  I cut the Grassy Border and attached it to the bottom of my card, taking care to only glue the bottom so I could stick my flowers in the grass.

I attached the bunnies to make them appear to be jumping; frolicking through the grass, and so happy that some bunny loves you.  I just cannot get enough of these adorable sets!

Thank you so much for stopping by - I do read each and every comment; I may not be able to respond, but I do read them!  I would love to have you follow me and if you do, please leave me a comment so I can follow you back - let's spread some Blogger love.  I'm also on Instagram and I'd LOVE to follow you there as well.  Have a hoppy happy day! Hugs, Christi
