CLBH Happy Meowlloween! {DAY 3}

 This card has my favorite things on it - cats & Halloween!! Unfortunately, the cats are discontinued, old sets from Mama Elephant but you can find them if you look.  I've been looking for them since I saw them and I finally lucked out as someone was selling both sets of stamps and dies. 

I started this card by stamping, coloring {using Zig Clean Color Brush Markers and a silver gel pen} and cutting out the cats, bats and spiders; stamped with my usual Gina K Amalgam Ink Pad in Obsidian on watercolor paper {I use this}.  I used both the Happy Meowlloween set and the Happy Meowlloween Extras set.  The die that I think looks like wrought iron is from Spellbinders from a Die of the Month kit; I cut that out of dark shimmer grey.  I stamped the sentiment directly onto the card, which was a mistake as the light grey card is textured and it took quite a few stamps to get it all filled in, but it finally did work as you can see.  I finished the card off with some Picket Fence gems from the Reflections mix.  I'm pleased with the outcome of the card and I am thrilled I scored these stamp sets.  I hope you like the card too! You are The Best

I made this little card to send out with a giveaway I had a while back but I had forgotten I never posted it!  Better late than never!  Hope you enjoy it!

This was a fast and easy card to make.  I cut out the smallest circle from the Spellbinders die and used it as a mask for the floral arrangement.  Once I was done, I stamped the sentiment and cut it out using the same circle, added dimensional dots to the center of the flowers and I was done!  The recipient loved the card as well as her prizes so this was a win win.  I rarely use a mask making my cards and I don't know why.  I think it is because back in the beginning of my stamping, it was much more difficult than it is now with all of the products made especially for masking easily.  Also, I might be a touch too lazy.  :)

Lawn Fawn Let it Snow

I hope you like this sparkly winter card as much as I do!  I am still struggling with the fact winter is here because I am sitting here with my window open - it is snowing right now and I still have my window open!  I love the Colorado weather!  Since it is snowing, I thought I'd share this card with you:

I had stamped, colored, cut, and put the glitter glue on the row of houses a while ago. If you are a regular reader you know I like to have extras of any stamps I color and cut, and this was a left over from a batch I made with the Lawn Fawn stamps.  Once the glitter glue dried, I set about deciding on a background, and this time I chose a snowy gray background so as to not distract from the houses.  Again, when deciding the sentiment I didn't want to distract from the houses but at the same time I wanted it to stand out enough that it would be read.  This maroon pearl paper is actually from an envelope I had gotten in a kit about a million years ago.  I used the dies to cut out the frame from the white glitter paper and adhered it all to the white card base.  I think this card looks a lot more complicated than it was to make!

Happy Holidays and Peace - A 2Fer!

I find it funny how many cards lead to more cards!  I am always trying to use up scraps and this is a perfect example of doing just that.  Plus, I adore both of these cards - they were super easy to make, and quick, which is something we all need this time of year.  I am very far behind in my Holiday cards; so for that reason, I really need to post these.  This is a 2 Fer.  Yes, you get 2 cards for the blog post of one!  Such a deal!

I made the first card because our neighbors brought us over Christmas cookies; totally unexpected and absolutely delicious!  So I figured I'd whip up a quick card to give to them. This is my Happy Holidays card:

Sparkle!

This is such an easy card to make; no stamping or coloring, just some die cuts and you are done!  I cut all the elements from the Blue Noel cardstock.  I love using paper that is already coordinated for you.  I trimmed down the base layer, attached it to the white card base, then finished the card by attaching the sentiment to the glittery gold circle, and finally gluing that to the card.  Done!  The card is all set to be delivered to my neighbors' mailbox!

Now as I said, the leftovers from the Happy Holidays card inspired me to make the winter scene card I'm calling Peace.  I used the left over portion of the circle die cut to make the focal point on this card.

I cut the circle trees out of shimmery gold card, being careful to leave enough of an edge around the cut.  Over that I layered the leftover circle of gold glittery cardstock.  I ended with

While writing up this post I realized how many retired products I have, and still use.  Just because a company needs to move forward and manufacture new items doesn't mean I retire the products I have.  I hope when you see a creation of mine and don't have the matching products I use, that you become inspired and look at all of your goodies in a new way.  I rarely get rid of anything crafty and if I do, it has nothing to do with the retail status of the product.  If I haven't used something in a few years, or it just isn't my style anymore, I either put it in my giveaway box or sell it.  I love getting crafty goodies in the mail and it makes no difference to me if it is no longer available!  I hope this quick post finds you and yours happy and healthy - I have a few more cards to show you, so stay tuned!  In fact, why not follow me on any or all of the social media platforms I have listed on the sidebar.  If you do follow me, please let me know where I can find you on Social Media and return the favor!  Take care, Christi

Snarky Birds and Cats

I am back with a whole bunch of cards to share with you!  I, like most of you, am stuck in the house and decided I'd play only with the items I had in my craft room at the moment (I still have a great deal in storage).  While flipping through all my half finished cards, lots of already colored bits and bobs and die sets this is the bunch I came up with.  I love snarky sentiments and I had so much fun pairing the animals with the sayings.

I remember when Tim's Crazy Birds were all the rage and when I got my set I stamped and colored like crazy!  I ended up with a huge surplus of crazy cats, birds and dogs.  I have six cards to share with you so to simplify things I compiled a basic list of items used in making this set. All of the cards are sized A2 (5 1/2" x 4 1/4"), every bird or cat was colored and cut prior to making the card using either Zig Clean Color Markers or Prismacolor Pencils and sometimes both mediums were used.  All of the accent dies are the ones I had on hand from MFT Die-Namics, Sizzix, Spellbinders, Mama Elephant and other manufacturers.  The sentiments are from Riley & Company Funny Bones and were stamped with Gina K amalgam ink in obsidian.  Last but not least every card used either Bird Crazy stamps and dies or Crazy Cats stamps and dies.  If you have any questions about the specific items I've used please feel free to contact me.  Now here we go!

Something a little different. . .

Hi all! I hope everyone is doing well & keeping busy.  I'm happy to say all the people in my life are doing well and I am crafting up a storm!  This card is a little different than what I normally create; I didn't use any ink or coloring on it.  I'd love to know what you think! The very first thing I did for this card was I cut the Springtime Tulips out of

heavy duty white card. I had gotten a large bag of mixed colors of half backed pears and used the second to the smallest size on this {I repackaged the pearls and neglected to write down the sizes.} I started to stick the half pearls with a wax holder pencil; the type that has a small metal tube in the front and you pick up a bit of the wax and then your item and then place it on your substrate.  Well, I got SO frustrated that I could not continue and I searched for a solution. I even tried the actual "wax pencils," that you sharpen as a real pencil, that supposedly

work the same way but the "lead" is a sticky substance with no luck. I found all of those items while searching and most of them were in the Nail Art section - perhaps they'd work better if you were placing a gem onto wet nail polish?  Finally, I had read about the Marvy Uchida Jewel Picker - this thing is GREAT! I was never good using tweezers and I have no trouble using this product! You can buy the Jewel Picker with one tip or two tips {the one I used}.  I breezed through the rest of the design in no time!

When the die was covered with the pearls I cut the background circle out of lavender paper, the leaves out of light green paper and the pink strip.  I assembled the card as you see in the pictures.  I honestly wasn't expecting the project to come out as well as it did; fighting with embellishments is one of my least favorite things to do! Happy 2019 with a2z Scrapbooking!

I am still in that holiday coma as I completely forgot I needed to have a post ready for the a2z Scrapbooking's January Challenge, which is the wonderful {and easy} theme of ANYTHING GOES! Thank goodness I had already made the card and only had to write up this post.  As you can see, I was really feeling the festivities and went a bit overboard on the embellishments and the bling, but hey, it's only once a year, right? And it was SO much fun to just go a bit crazy!

When I think of New Year's Eve, images of women in gowns, men in tuxedos, confetti, champagne, and classic elegance come to mind.  I wanted this card to convey some of that festive party mood so I used a classic palette of silver, gold, black, and gray.  I used a white 5" x 7" card base since I knew I wouldn't be able to fit all the elements I wanted to use on my usual A2 {5 1/2" x 4 1/4"} sized card.  I trimmed down the gray card and ran it through my Big Shot using an embossing folder that I didn't even remember I had!  I tend to keep the crafty items that I don't use that much in the back of whatever storage I have and this one was hiding.  Being a larger size than I typically use means I put the folder in the very back.  However, I think it helps the festive nature of the card and I'm glad I came across it.  Once the card was dry embossed, I glued it onto the base and stuck it under the tile to dry overnight.  I've had trouble getting intricate embossed paper to stick to the base so I knew if I loaded it up with glue and set it to dry overnight it would stick.

Another Look

Meanwhile, I stamped the balloons with embossing ink and embossed them with black, silver, gold embossing powder, and a little silver glitter powder, then I cut and set them aside.  I did the same with the balloon strings.  I stamped the drinks in black ink and die cut them as well.  I don't have many number dies and I bought these without having a project in mind, but I knew they'd come in handy and they did! I cut them out of gold card, sort of a dull gold.  Lastly, I had to decide what "happy" I wanted to use and eventually settled on one.  I didn't want the "happy" to be the focal point of the card so I chose a small one, cut it out of black card, and all of my elements were ready to go.

I added all the die cut pieces and then went a little crazy with some iridescent and clear dots.  I started wanting the bubbles to come up out of the glasses like champagne but that didn't work so well so I just put the dots anywhere and everywhere I wanted.  I think it makes the card a celebration all on it's own!  Thank you for reading my tutorial and I hope you join us at a2z Scrapbooking this month; after all, you can't win if you don't play and how can you not play when Anything Goes! Girl With Balloons

It's the last day of the month and I am sharing this card I made for the Die Cut Divas November Challenge, thoughtfully sponsored by SheepSki Designs.  This month's theme is "anything goes" and you still have a bit of time to get your project in, but hurry!

While this image was designed for a birthday card, I decided to make it an all occasion card as I don't have nearly enough "just because" cards.  As you may know, I am struggling to learn how to use alcohol ink markers successfully and I had printed this image out much smaller, thinking smaller would be easier to color.  Nope.  That was NOT the case.  It was much harder to color when it was smaller.  I did color it though, but I wasn't pleased with it at all, so I printed out the image on a bigger scale and found it to be much more relaxing to color.  I am actually proud of how I colored this digital stamp; I colored the entire thing which is something new for me.  I colored the background, the girl's skin, everything.  Being a good student, I looked up online how to properly color hair but, as usual, I didn't have the colors I needed.  I'm sure once I become more comfortable with using the markers, I will be able to improvise better with the colors I do have on hand.  I even attempted to color her eyes and give her that look that makes the images seem to actually be looking at you; again, I couldn't do that with the smaller image {I used a white Gelly Roll pen and I highly recommend buying the 3 pack which has the sizes .05, .08 and 10}. All in all, I think I did a pretty good job! 

Once the image was colored, I used the curved rectangle die to cut it out.  I found a piece of pale blue card and used an unbranded die I have of what looks like falling stars to cut it for the background.  I mounted the panel onto a white card base, and then the image onto that.  I noticed I went a bit outside the line around the ear, but I fixed that by giving her an earring made from a small flat-backed gem from my stash.  

I hope you like my colorful "anything goes" card for Die Cut Divas.  I'm so glad I am on this design team and I am getting much more comfortable with using digital images; considering about two years ago I wouldn't have touched them and really wasn't pleased that I couldn't use my Zig markers to color them.  I think I may have found a fix for that; I have an old spray can of fixative that fixes the image but you are still able to color it.  That's going to be my next experiment working with digis.  I hope you and yours had a marvelous holiday and thank you so much for stopping by. ~ Fondly, Christi

A Hero Arts Spooky Labels Halloween

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know I'm not exactly a huge fan of digital stamps.  My discomfort working with digital stamps was a big reason I applied for the Design Team at a2z Scrapbooking; they are THE source for Hero Arts Digital Stamps.  You can't buy them anywhere else!

Following this month's theme of "Frightfully Fun," I used the digital set from Hero Arts called Spooky Labels. Here is my card:

For this card, I also broke out of my comfort zone with color.  Typically, for me, Halloween means black and orange; it's only been a few years since I've been able to incorporate purple!  Using this lime green card base is completely different for me.  But I figure why not go all the way out of my comfort zone; why just go out a little?

The first step for me was using Word to open the digital stamps.  A team mate of mine at a2z Scrapbooking shared a fabulous tutorial she found on how to use digi stamps in Word.  I followed that and I came up with my image.  I even isolated the spider web, which has more to it in the set, and got it to peek out of the corner of my label.  I probably won't ever be able to do it again!  I changed the color of the striped design and my sentiment, then printed the design on regular white card.

I set to work looking for the perfect background paper, which I found in an old set from Carta Bella.  Next I went through all my shapes dies {and I have a LOT of them} and found the Spellbinders set that I used to cut out the digital stamp and the background paper.  After I put all the elements together, the card still looked plain to me.  What do cardmakers do when something looks plain?  We add glitter; well, in this case, I added a glittery bat sticker.  I think the bat definitely makes this card better!  I've decided that if I want to continue playing with digital stamps, I need to invest in a better printer.  I need one that will print in waterproof ink and I've heard that laser printers work the best.  What do you think?  Do you use digital stamps?  I'd rather hear from you than a bunch of reviewers that I don't know.

Coffee Helps me Maintain ~ 2018 Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop

Another card for the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop! The card was inspired by a card on the Spellbinders' site that illustrates the dies in use.  I loved the three cups, so I decided to make three cups for my card, too.  I started by cutting out the cups from white card, then I cut the cup out of patterned paper {which I dug out of my scraps stash} and the little cup

holder from brown card.  I carefully cut the tops off the patterned paper and glued that onto the white card bodies, followed by the cup holder.

While the cups were drying, I stamped my sentiment onto some white card and cut the word 'coffee' from some dark brown card.  I used a stitched oval die to cut out the sentiment, making sure it was at the bottom of the oval.  I attached the oval to the kraft card base, then glued the word 'coffee' to the top of the oval. 

Once I had the cups positioned, I attached those to the base as well.  Lastly, I used some of my homemade dots to finish off the card.  I love the floral coffee cups; I was getting bored with everything being shades of brown.  Thanks for stopping in and I hope you like this card as much as I do! I'm Here Fur You

This card was actually made back in the summer but I completely forgot about it! Lucky for you, my dear reader, I found it.  My set was originally an add-on to the My Monthly Hero Kit of February 2017, but you can now buy both pieces outside of the kit!!

I started this card by trimming a white panel down 1/4" on all sides, then I stamped the raindrops all over the panel using the Oxide Inks.  While I waited for the ink to fully dry, I stamped the kitties on a white scrap using black ink, then cut them out.  Setting them aside, I stamped my sentiment (using the Wilted Violet Oxide Ink) on another piece of white card and cut it out with the Spellbinders die.

All that is left at this point is assembling the card.  I attached the kitties, three on each side of where the sentiment was going to be, in various tumbling

poses.  Lastly, I used a dimensional dot to adhere the sentiment to the center of the card.  

I love the colors of this card and how well they coordinate, and since we are entering the rainy {snow} season, how appropriate is this card?
