 I can feel myself falling behind and how I hate that feeling! But yes, March is upon us and for this months challenge at Paper Funday I am using Newton's Nooks products which is generously sponsoring our challenge this month. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that I simply adore the cute, cuddly cats that can be found at Newton's Nook and these products were introduced just last month so everything is brand new!  Oh and this post is a 2fer!  Yes, 2 for the price of one; such a bargain! If the theme of Anything Goes doesn't work for you, feel free to enter something with the colors of Green & Gold; perfect for those St. Paddy's Day cards!   

To start with I stamped the Heartfelt Meows stamp on both water color paper and grey card.  I used the corresponding die to cut both of the hearts out and concentrated on the water color heart first.  I colored the heart with my Zigs, chose a Kraft card, then figured out the placement of the heart; which I attached to the card with foam tape.  I embossed the sentiment using white embossing powder and finally added a few homemade dots {made with Perler beads that I cut in half and baked in the oven!}

 

Now it was time to work on the other card.  I chose a white card base for this card and left the black ink on the grey card as is.  I did cut a few more of the Heart Frames Die, one using a darker grey and one using a shade of pink that matched the strip of the Love & Meows Paper Pad paper I used.  Lastly, I had the red Love You sentiment on my desk from a project I didn't use it for so I popped that onto the small grey heart.  And by the way, Newton's Nook has a complete product line that work with the Heart Frames Die, check it out here; everything from dogs, to fall, holidays and MORE! So cute!

You're Sweet at Paper Funday!!

Boy, pink is a TOUGH color to photograph! But I still love this card and made it for the Paper Funday February "Hugs & Kisses" challenge.  I adore Lawn Fawn Products and this was made with some of the older ones, but I have some new ones in the works, so stay tuned!I

I stretched myself making this card; there is NO stamping on it at all!  I almost had to stamp a sentiment, but as you can see I worked that out. Let me explain how I made the card. I started with the slimline card and cut out the back layer and the front layer, using pink and white card. Then I cut out the hearts so they were visible through the hearts on the front of the card.  I wanted the small hearts to be white, so I used some scrap white card to layer behind it.  I attached that portion close to the top because my plan was to use the sentiment at the bottom of the card.  Well, that didn't work out very well. First it didn't fit and then there was the dilemma of what color should the sentiment be?  I really did not want to introduce another color to the pallet so I just moved the sentiment up a bit and placed it onto the focal part of the card. Then I had to figure out what to add to the bottom since there was too much space to just leave it {at least I thought so.}  I debated if I should trim it {there doesn't seem to be any real standard yet for slimline cards.}  No trimming; instead I focused on something I could add.  I tried pearls and gems until my eye settled on the Hedgehugs set that was on my desk.  Perfect!  I cut out those little hearts five times and adhered them to the bottom of the card.  I doubt you'd think that space was unplanned if I didn't tell you!  I love the way the card came out, especially the little hearts along the bottom!  I hope to see your "Hugs & Kisses" projects on the Paper Funday Challenge! Hey everyone!

I love the look of white & brown together, especially kraft brown! This was an easy card to make and I think, while it is simple, it is also impactful. Hope you like it!

To make this simple card all I did was stamp the cats and sentiment onto the kraft base, using embossing ink, and then heat embossed them with embossing powder. After finding a heart die that matched the cats, I cut out 6 hearts from shimmery red paper.  Once the hearts were cut out, I attached them to the card and I was done!

In case you can't tell, I am a cat lover.  Actually, I love all animals, but cats hold a special place in my heart. I promise if you follow me on this blog or any other social media you will see at least two cat cards a month.  Thanks SO much for stopping by!

Happy Father's Day!

Hey everyone!

I am SO glad you are visiting me as it is time to get your flow on and join us in the River of Creativity with any project depicting parent(s) and child(ren). What I did first for this card was stamp, cut and color all of the kitties.  Between the two of us, my roommate and I,  we have eight {yes, 8!} and I wanted them all on this card.  Granted these eight cats don't exactly look like our eight, I haven't figured out how to color a black cat without making it look like a black blob, but I am working on it! So, consider these cats as stand ins for the real ones. I wasn't planning on making a square card, but I couldn't fit all the cats on any other way. Once I got the placement of the cats down, I embossed the sentiment using black embossing powder. Then, I glued the cats in their positions.  I felt like the card needed a bit of color, so I die cut a heart using glitter red card and popped that, using dimensional dots between the second and third sentiment.  As per usual, I had enough cats left over that I actually made 2 cards, but I will be posting that one later. Sparkle and Shine with The Paper Funday Challenge!

 Hello everyone!

Happy June! This month at the Paper Funday Challenge the optional theme is "Sparkle and Shine" so I decided to make a rainbow card! I figure everyone loves rainbows and, after a wet spring, we can all use a bit more color. I hope you enjoy my creation!

When I found out the optional choice for this month's challenge was Sparkle and Shine I knew I wanted to make a rainbow card.  My first step was to cut out the rainbow, then I assembled it and studded it with the gems.  I found a great deal on these gems, they are actually marketed for fingernails, but a flat backed gem that works just fine on cardstock too!  Once my rainbow was dry, I cut the word "shine" out of black glitter card, then the word "on" from muted gold and glued those onto the card base.  At this point I wasn't sure what else I wanted to put on the card, more gems or something else and, as you can see, I chose to make a bunch of hearts from scraps of glitter card.  I attached them onto the card and I was finished. I have to say I am in love with the new alphabet dies and I imagine you will be seeing more creations featuring it.  Another card done with no stamping, but the message is clear - Shine On!

You Make my Heart Happy

This card is another one that was all ready to be published; I had written it up before I had my crafting sabbatical and promptly forgot about it! I love the layering of this stamp set and the color combinations are limitless!  I hope you like this creation as much as I do!

Another look

Reading the instructions included with the stamp set, I stamped each portion of the letters using the inks in the same order they are listed above.  I die cut the letters and attached them to the card base with dimension dots.  Once I mounted the word YOU onto the card base I added the hearts using Strawberry and Bubble Gum inks. Finally I added the sentiment on the card using Moss ink.  I need a bit more practice lining everything up but I am happy with how this card came out.  Thanks for stopping by, and I appreciate your continued support more than you know! Hero Arts Love is Love

I just have to start with the fact that I have had this Kaleidacolor ink pad for over 20 years and I have never had to re-ink it or ever had any issues with the pad or any other Kaleidacolor pads I have.  I even had one on which the top got cracked during a move and I put the pad in a zipper bag and it STILL works!  When I find a product that I feel is a great value, I just have to share it!  So I stamped the image of the hands holding the heart globe on a scrap piece of white card, cut that out with the stitched heart die, and set it aside.  Then I took the card base and stamped the sentiment on it with the same Kaleidacolor pad as I used to stamp the focal image. I attached the heart with dimensional dots and I was finished. I think the message of this card is so timely and the CAS design catches your eye. What do you think?

These were surprisingly easy to make and I had originally planned on just making the one card that says "I Love You" on it. I had cut out another of the stacked hearts since I wanted to put some white inlay hearts into the original card.  Then I realized, why not use the white leftover frame as a stencil and make another card?  So that's what I did, using distress oxide inks.  All along I had planned on just using the stencil and throwing it away but I loved how pretty it was once I was done blending the inks so I used that part too! That is how most of my 2fers are born; the leftovers are too good to throw out so I make another card to use them up.  It's a win-win in my mind.  I get more cards and I make less waste.

Sending Hugs Shaker Card

This card has been in the works for a while and it is actually a comedy of errors.  While I am pleased with the end result, the picture I had in my mind's eye was a little different.  Here is what I used and how I made the card {including what went wrong!}

I started this card because I wanted to make a shaker card using the beautiful Birch Press Design Dies, so I cut the three layered dies out of glitter and colored cardstock, then proceeded to make a base out of five or six cuts using only the bottom die.  I used a circle die to cut a piece of acetate, attached that to the top portion of the shaker and set the 2 pieces {the top and the stacked bottom} aside to dry.  When I went to assemble the shaker itself, I could not find the bottom stacked piece.  I don't know if you have ever made a shaker card this way, using a stacked piece, but it isn't difficult.  It is time consuming, especially using an intricate die such as this. I looked everywhere; it was gone and the cats were not talking.  So I made another stacked piece and set that aside to dry.  This time when I went to assemble the shaker everything was there and I moved on.

I started this card sometime in December and when it came time to attach the shaker piece onto a card base, I decided white looked best so I glued the shaker onto a white card base.  Then came time for the sentiment.  I knew what I wanted to use.  I grabbed my Platform to stamp "sending" directly on the card and I couldn't do it.  Where I had already glued the shaker was causing the Platform to not make contact with the card.  I wrestled with this for a good amount of time, moving the card around, thinking if I wanted to risk stamping without the Platform {the old way; I am NOT good at the old way of stamping. I shudder to think of all the paper and ink I wasted trying to get a good impression.  And I can't use the old stamp positioners. I have two of them gathering dust somewhere and I just cannot get them to work properly} so I resorted to putting the entire sentiment on a separate piece of card and attaching that to the card base.  Normally I would have worked all of these tiny issues out prior to gluing anything down but because I didn't want to lose the shaker, I didn't even think of the possible sentiment issues.  To a non-crafter this is NOT a big issue.  I tried to talk to my roommate about it to get some sympathy and he just didn't get it.  Anyway, I stamped my sentiment and used the hugs die.  As a little bit of bling, I used a few of the hearts left over from making the shaker.  I can promise you I will never jump the gun like this again!  I blame the fact that I worked on it, set it aside, then worked a little more, instead of doing my usual work style and finishing the card within a week of starting it.  I would have liked the card better if the stamping and die cut were literally on the card, but it is what it is.

I know we all have little fails and I'd love to hear about some of yours below.  Maybe the one fail that sticks out in your mind is not so much for what went wrong but why.  Oh, and I did find the first stacked portion I made.  Under the paper cutter!  I still suspect the cats had something to do with it but until I install those nanny cams, I just need to move on.  Thank you so much for reading all of this and I know YOU feel for me!  Fondly, Christi

Hero Arts Paper Layering Heart Card

Hello crafty people! It's about halfway through this month's Mood Board

challenge at a2z Scrapbooking and that means you have plenty of time to take a look at the board and whip up a card!  I was very inspired by this mood board!  I took out all my fancy papers, started about a thousand new projects {because I always get inspired looking at all the pretty paper I have, and I have a LOT!} and I finally chose some that I think showcase the die very nicely.  Now I have a bunch of other cards and such in progress scattered all over my craft room!

I adore this card! The papers are so pretty; the grey pattern has a very subtle pattern of cream colored little swirls going through it; it looks so delicate.  And the overlay paper, well, it's DCWV, so you KNOW it's beautiful.  I've captured the

shine in the picture above.  Since I knew the focus of the card was to be the heart die, it was very important to me to choose some nice papers.  And they match the mood board!  Always a plus when you can fulfill your Design Team duties by using what they want!

This card was very easy to make.  I cut the grey paper to a panel to fit the A2 card base and then cut a smaller rectangle out of the DCWV paper.  I attached the grey paper to the card and let it sit overnight to dry completely.  I used the heart die on the peach paper, flipping the cut outs and gluing them to the other side.  I felt like the card needed a bit more pizzazz so I used the corner punch on the overlay paper.  I attached the die cut and punched paper to the card over the grey paper and I was done!  I'm fascinated by how one little touch, be it gems, dots, glitter, or a corner punch can elevate a card to a different level.  Do you remember using corner {or any} punches? I still have quite a few that I'm just not ready to part with.

You Warm my Heart

I made this card especially for the current theme on the Lawn Fawnatics challenge blog - the 40th challenge is this cool color inspiration:

I first have to share why you shouldn't be crafting at 2 AM - can you spot what I did wrong?

It was an easy fix because I do this ALL the time - I have even gotten into the habit of checking which way my card opens before I attach anything to it and I STILL attach things upside down or on the wrong side.  Nothing a quick cut won't fix.  

My first step in making this card was finding one of the background papers from the Really Rainbow Christmas Pack.  I knew I wanted to use the cute heart and the scarf from Let it Snow and I had a vision in my head of what I wanted to do.  I needed to find a paper that didn't clash with my intentions and I chose the rainbow snowflakes.  

Then I stamped my scarves on watercolor paper and colored them in using Zig Clean Color Markers.  I cut them all out and set them aside.  I thought using pastel color papers for the hearts would work but they were too bland.  So I found coordinating paper {that matched the scarves} and die cut the hearts from bright colors.  I paired the scarves with the matching hearts.

Another Peek

The sentiment comes in the set as a square and I didn't have enough room to use it in that shape so I used my Platform and some sticky notes. I didn't take pictures of the process because it was getting late and I was tired.  It took me a few tries before I got the sentiment to line up sort of straight, but by that time I felt it was good enough.  I basically used the sticky notes as masks to stop the part of the saying from stamping where I didn't want it to. All in all I think it was a successful adaptation, but next time I'll give myself enough time to screw up without stressing myself.
