Celebrate Red, White and Blue

I don’t normally make 4th of July cards, but I had an idea brewing for a while now and I decided to try it out and see if it would work.  Plus I had this red, white & blue ribbon that I had bought when I was a dem for SU! (and that was at least 15 years ago) and I have never used it.  So, what do you get when you have an idea and old ribbon? This card! {Warning! Adorable cat picture at the end of this post!}
The orange is actually red
What I Used to Make this Card:
White Cardstock
Red, white & blue ribbon, 3/8” wide (like I said, I used SU! but they discontinued it)
Crafters’ Pick glue
Karen Foster Design Sparkle Brads
Acrylic Red and Blue Stars
Blue Cardstock Base
Silhouette Cameo Cut file of rockets
Hand Held Hole Puncher that has a very tiny hole (not the kind to make paper fit in a 3 ring binder)

First I had covered a spare piece of white cardstock with the ribbon.  I did this a while before I made the card but all I did was glue the ribbon to the cardstock.  Once it was dry, I trimmed it to the size I wanted and then “sealed” the edges with glue so the ribbon wouldn’t fray. That was my idea to test, as I have a hoard of ribbon that I never use - I need to start using it! And it came out better than I expected.

I literally have had the Karen Foster brads for at least 10 years and I had to find them since they didn’t fit where I had stored my other brads.  That wasn’t easy! But find them I did, so once the ribbon panel was completely dry I figured where on the card I wanted the 2 brads to be placed, punched a hole and attached them.  The next step was the rocket cut outs that I made with my Silhouette Cameo, using white cardstock.  It was a free file I got from somewhere – I haven’t got a clue as to where.  After fiddling with them, I glued them down.

Fiddling with placement

Next, I stamped the full stamp from the Simple Sayings set that said, “just celebrate” in the Jet Black ink.  I cut the “just” off and adhered the “celebrate” to the lower left hand corner of the card.  Lastly, I dug out some of my acrylic stars in red & blue, placed them where I thought they looked good, glued them on, then glued the ribbon panel, with all the attachments to a card base I made of blue cardstock.  It’s a simple card, but I think it is pretty, with all the sparkles and such.  I know the perfect little girl to send this to!

Also, I announced a couple months back I would be having a giveaway.  My Blogaversary has passed, but I haven’t been able to get it together enough to have my giveaway, yet.  I do have tons of goodies to giveaway, and I will be doing it eventually, but honestly it probably won’t happen until September.  I figure since this is my blog, I can have the giveaway any time I want, despite it being a Blogaversary celebration.  So stay tuned! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you enjoyed my card! Christi

Mom's Birthday Card

I made this card for my Mom’s birthday – she turned 81 yesterday.  My Mom is sight impaired due to untreated glaucoma and I am always looking for ways she can use her other senses when I make her something. So, this card has a bunch of things she can feel as well as see.  Sadly, this also my last post with the Design Team for Globecraft & Piccolo.  I have had a marvelous time and I wish them continued success!  Thanks to my awesome teammates and to Stacey & Sandy for making the experience so incredibly fun!

What I Used to Make this Card:

DCWV Chalk Art Stack – card base 5 ¼ x 5 ¼
Silhouette Cameo letter cutouts
Ranger Embossing Powder in Rich Red
White Cardstock

Mom loves roses

I confess I had covered the rose long before I made the card.  I knew the 3D gels would be beautiful on the chipboard and I made a few of them.  I tried to trace around the rose as carefully as I could (I can’t find my metal tip. I suspect one of the cats has taken it.  Actually, I am positive one of the cats took it) but I actually ended up covering the rose sort of like when you grout tile.  Because I didn’t need it to be absolutely perfect, I just filled in spots with more 3D gel after it dried.  Since the gel is amazing, you can’t even tell and I was open to some more texture anyway.  So, cover your rose and let it dry overnight if you can.

Then I discovered how brilliantly the rose fit into the French Oval Frame.  Now, the cardstock is also very bright, not neon bright, but bright.

I had no Embossing Enamel that matched, so I took some red embossing powder and covered the frame with that first.  Then I pounced my Embossing Fluid around the frame and covered that with Cranberry Ice Embossing Enamel – I love the way it came out!

I cut my card base out of the DCWV Chalk Art Stack – that paper is thick!! I made a square card since I had so much to put on it and I wanted Mom to be able to touch the cardstock; it has a texture to it so it can be used like a chalkboard (you can even wipe the chalk off). So cool!
It's STUNNING in real life!!
To keep the theme going, I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out Happy Birthday (I also discovered a neat trick – when your letters are still on the cutting mat, before you remove them, use a bit of washi tape that is long enough to grab all the letters, then gently use your tool to remove them.  Now, when you go to place them, they are all straight!)

Next I just traced the inner circle of the French Frame and cut it outside the trace line so there would be a little bit of paper to use to attach the it to the frame. Positioned my rose in the center of the white cardstock, and then glued the whole shebang to the front of the card.  Lastly, I put the Happy Birthday on the inside of the card since I didn’t have enough room on the outside.

So there you have it!! Mom and I met yesterday to celebrate our birthdays over lunch & she LOVED the card (of course)! Sorry no other view of the card! I hope you have enjoyed my birthday card – I still have one more birthday to celebrate, so keep your eyes peeled! Thank you & have a lovely day! Christi

Craft Room Challenge Blog ~ Tattoo and Hand Drawn Challenge!!

I was so thrilled when Zoe asked me if had wanted to be a part of the Craft-Room Challenge Blog Design Team - I had tried out during their last DT Call but narrowly missed being chosen.  Seems that a DT member had to step down, so I stepped up!  Zoe knows I have tattoos and a wild streak, so she felt this challenge was an excellent opportunity for me to start.  A very short bio about me is that I currently live in Colorado, transplanted from the East Coast, with my five cats and partner.  I have been crafting since an early age, but discovered paper crafts in the early 90's.  I love making just about everything and I go where my muse leads me.  I do hope you enjoy my very first project for Craft-RoomChallenge ~

The actual challenge is Tattoos and Hand Drawn.  Tattoos? No problem.  Hand drawn? HUGE shudder.  Anyway, I had gotten this stamp set from Unity Stamp Co.  a few months back because it truly spoke to me and I think the image and sentiments are just SO perfect for so many things.  One of my best Facebook friends, Tara, has her birthday the same day as I do - not only do we share a birthday, but we also share a lot of the same interests, views, friends and attitude.  This was THE perfect chance to break my new set in!

What I Used to Make my Card:
Unity Stamp Co. "Shera" set, UK-682A
White Cardstock
White Square Card Base (5 1/4 x 5 1/4)
Red Cardstock
White Pen
Silhouette Cut Out - Heart
Distress Markers in Black Soot, Festive Berries, Faded Jeans, Barn Door and Squeezed Lemonade
Detail Black Embossing Enamel by Globecraft & Piccolo
Embossing Fluid
Recollections Stamp Set - Mark my Heart
SU! Set, Favorite Greetings, Happy Birthday Stamp
Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black
Silver Gel Pen
I had already made the flames background - I used:
TCW Flames Stencil (6 x 6)
Fireworks Spray Ink in Tangelo, Lady Bug & Dandelion

For this card, my flames background was already made, if you wish to use the same or similar, make your background first.  Secondly, I stamped my main image in Embossing Fluid and embossed her using Detail Black Embossing Enamel - I am still learning to color using alcohol markers (ok, ok, truth is, I have Copics and Tria Markers, but I haven't really started to learn to color with them) so I opted for regular old Distress Markers to color her in.

Close Up of the Tattoo

I had some over-stamp on my image, but since I knew I was going to fussy cut her, it didn't matter to me.  I colored her and fussy cut her out.  Since this fortnightly challenge is Tattoos, I highlighted her tattoo by coloring the skull on her arm with a silver gel pen.  I cut a heart out using my Silhouette and had wrote her name on it with the White Pen for my "hand drawn" portion of the challenge (yes, I know - I feel like I cheated a wee bit, but one of the reasons I started stamping is because I cannot draw a crooked line). The Happy Birthday sentiment is from an old SU! Set, and the lines can also be colored in, so I did that with the color Festive Berries Marker as well, after I stamped it on some white card using the Jet Black ink.

The interior portion of the card is something I don't normally share, but since I used a tattoo looking stamp from a Recollections set called "Mark My Heart" and the cute saying from the Unity set, I thought I'd share it. I also put the tattoo stamp on her envelope.

And here is another look at My Happy Birthday Tara card ~
